Pine Needle Basket Making
September 3 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
Explore the beauty of this ancient form of basketmaking with Judith Thomas. You’ll learn the technique of “coiling” pine needles and then begin stitching the coils together with raffia or waxed linen. By the end of class, you’ll be able to “turn the corner” to create side walls and use finishing techniques to complete the rim of your basket. You’ll learn where to locally source the needles and all the other materials we’ll be using, including the best reference books. Judith is a self-taught pine needle basket-maker, but the tradition comes from Native American cultures. If you identify as Native American and want to learn this traditional craft, Judith invites you to take the class at no cost–just email us through Eventbrite.
